On the moon
The whole town is empty at dusk and it appears I am on the moon.

61°N
Kangiqsujuaq is a community of roughly 800 people located at 61°N.

Aerial view
Like other communities, it is quite small. Driving from one end to another takes just a few minutes.

Petrol stop
Looks eerily empty at 6:45pm.

Petrol stop (2)
Gas and diesel at $2.58 a litre

Fresh char
A generous gift of fish that was frozen fresh from the sea.

Fresh char
Gutting the char and sampling some raw before cooking the rest.

Muktuk (beluga)
The traditional food of Arctic peoples. The skin is finely sliced and eaten raw, while the meat can be dried or cooked. Turns out it is a good source of Vitamins C and D. However, with ocean pollution, heavy metals such as mercury are now found as bioaccumulated contaminants in the blubber.

Eagle sculpture
Proudly carved from soapstone by Jobie Koneak.

Jobie the carver
He gathers inspiration when out on the land. For this sculpture he found a soapstone and carved an eagle from it using only traditional tools. He then applied shoe polish and baked it in the oven to set.

Boots
Handmade with sealskin and wool by the wearer.

Gospel church
Congregants gather for a prayer service that night, which was announced over the radio.

Stuck in snow
The pickup truck that Emmanuel just parked is now stuck due to heavy snow and winds.

Blizzard in airport
Having to turn back as all flights were cancelled that day.

Morning walk
The sunrises are always beautiful.
